Starting Therapy
Step 1
Call our office at (316) 618-1252.
We will ask you about your concerns for your child and get basic contact information, including any insurance details.
Step 2
Obtain a referral or script from your child's physician.
Contact your doctor to request a referral or script, and ask them to fax it to TheraPlay Spot at 316-869-2277. The script will need to say "OT (or PT or ST) to evaluate and treat" and should include any diagnosis codes.
Step 3
Complete Welcome Packet
We will send you a link via email of our documentation. Please include as many details that apply to your child. If you have feeding concerns (i.e. overly picky eater or food aversions), please ask for the Feeding form as well. When the welcome packet is completed, click submit to continue the process.
Step 4
We will call you to schedule the initial evaluation
Our Intake Coordinator reviews the Welcome Packet, then will call you to set up an appointment for an initial evaluation and give you directions to our clinic.
Step 5
Your commitment matters.
Please add this appointment to your calendar. You'll also receive an automated text reminder 24 hours before the appointment. Plan to arrive a few minutes early.
Step 6
Show up for your evaluation appointment
Children should wear comfortable clothes. Check in at the front desk and show proof of insurance. Allow up to 90 minutes and plan to participate throughout the evaluation process. For this reason, please do not bring siblings to this appointment.
The therapist will gather information about your child by asking you questions, observing your child do a variety of activities and tasks, and will likely administer standardized testing to establish an individualized therapy plan of care.
The entire staff at TheraPlay Spot would like to thank you for choosing us and welcome you to our family.
What To Expect Therapy Initial Evaluation
Allow at least an hour, up to an hour and a half. Please arrive on time and make yourself comfortable in our waiting room. Your evaluating therapist will meet you and your child there to provide a tour of our space to help familiarize your child with our environment. The therapist will use standardized and non-standardized tests, observation, and parent/physician information to get an overall snapshot of your child's strengths and weaknesses. Parents are strongly encouraged to contribute to the goal-setting process.
Once the evaluation is completed the therapist will discuss preliminary findings and offer some recommendations. Once the insurance authorization is obtained (if applicable) and the doctor has reviewed and authorized the evaluation, we will schedule your child for a weekly appointment for therapy. Every attempt will be made to find a mutually agreeable time for the appointments. Generally, therapy will be scheduled on the same day and time each week for consistency.
If you have questions or concerns as to how to explain your visit to TheraPlay Spot to your child, please call for individualized support depending on the age and concerns of your child. TheraPlay Spot is a warm and friendly environment, and you can reassure your child that they will have a fun and positive experience. The therapist will leave it up to you if you would like to observe your child during the evaluation. School excused absence slips can be provided upon request.
